1987-1990    Member of Open Hand Puppet Theatre, as performer, musician, puppet  maker, set builder, and technical support.                         Studied flute with SSO principle John Oberbrunner. Musician for the Syracuse Contemporary Dance Company.
1990-1994 Studied flute, performance, composition, and theory in Boston with Peter Bloom, John McDonald, and Joe Maneri.                         Studied voice and theater with the Roy Hart Theatre Co., Member of Boston Microtonal Society, Just Intonation
                        Network, & Tuft’s New Music Ensemble.
1993-2000 Founder/performer of GADURI, International Flute Army, Boston Improvisors'  Collective, & Mamashoe.
1994-2000 Additional performances in Boston and New York with John Voigt, Debris, Boston Microtonal Society, Tonya                                  Lockyer, Roy Hart Theatre, Pilgrim Theatre,and others.
1999-2001 Shoebox Performance Loft, organized and ran a small performance series on Beacon Hill.

1998: Performed as musician/ actor in Pilgrim Theatre’s Tibetan Book Of The Dead. Composed and premiered a song cycle for                            chamber ensemble using text from the Mayan Popol Vuh.

Matt Samolis has been working in sonic and visual mediums since 1987. He began studying flute, and later composition and tenor banjo. He has worked with ensembles at New England Conservatory, Brandeis University, Berklee, and Tufts, as well as Open Hand Theatre, Pilgrim Research Collaborative,
Mobius, Roy Hart Theatre, and numerous other projects. Currently, his primary focus is composition, and performing as a flutist with various performance groups. He also curates a concert series for new music at the Church of the Advent Library in Boston.
