LEAP OF FAITH [PEK/GLYNIS LOMON et al] - Out Of Zeit (Evil Clown 04; USA) This version of Leap of Faith features the core duo of PEK [David Peck] on clarinets, saxes & bassoon and Glynis Lomon on cello & voice with Craig Schildhauer on bass for the first long piece, and just the duo Pek & Glynis on the second piece. Both pieces were recorded in February of 1999 a couple of days apart. The one name here that you might recognize is Ms. Glynis Lomon who has played live with Bill Dixon. Leap of Faith is a long surviving trio from the Cambridge, MA area who have some dozen self-produced discs and add guests like drummers Sydney Smart or Laurence Cook at times. The original trio (Pek Lomon & Schildhauer) sound like they have been playing together for many years and this is indeed the case. This set was recorded live at the Zeitgeist gallery and the trio take their time unfold, communicate and evolve together. There is a great deal of intense and often explosive interplay going on here, some of which is a bit scary. although it is kept to a minimum, Ms. Lomon lets out some harrowing vocals during a section of the title piece. Somewhat disturbing, but not for very long. The one thing that I notice throughout is that the strings and reeds sound great together, often playing with similar textures and timbral qualities. Of the half dozen Leap of faith discs I've checked ut so far, this in one is the most intense, riveting and the furthest out. Are you ready to be knocked out? Then take this Leap of faith and dive into the unknown...
